Sydney’s Malcolm Trayner has fallen agonisingly short of the WSOP Main Event final table, busting in 10th after his luck ran out just when he looked set to leave the field in his wake.
Having come into Day 8 holding a commanding chip lead, Trayner – fresh from his memorable Aussie Millions win in May – looked set to cruise onto the final table after extending his overnight lead early.
But his luck turned by way of a monster pot against Lucas Jumalon when his Q♦Q♥was out-flopped by Jumalon’s J♥J♣ – a hand that cost half his stack.
From there, very little went right for Trayner, finding himself on the wrong end of two all-ins against short-stacked opponents and ultimately reaching the final table bubble as the shortest stack of all.
In the final hand of the day, Trayner put his remaining chips in the middle holding J♣4♣ against the K♣Q♦ of Jumalon on a 4♥8♥8♠ flop and could only watch on as his hand was counterfeited by the 9♠ turn and 9♣ river.
He takes home US$750,000 for his efforts.
With Trayner’s departure, the 2026 WSOP Main Event final table is set and it is the Aussie’s nemesis Jumalon holding a dominant chip lead with more than double the stack of next best Rami Hammoud of Canada.
Play is scheduled to recommence on 3 August after a lengthy break, with a massive US$10 million first prize awaiting this year’s champion.
