The Aussie Millions has locked in some genuine star power with confirmation on Monday that Australian NBA star Josh Giddey will take his seat in this year’s Main Event.
Fresh from a breakout season with the Chicago Bulls, Giddey told sports radio network SEN that he was a definite starter at the upcoming Aussie Millions at Crown Melbourne as an ambassador for recently launched sportbook CrownBet.
“Funnily enough, poker has been a massive hobby of mine for a number of years now,” the 23-year-old told SEN in an interview.
“I watch a lot of it, I love to play it and I heard about the Aussie Millions through a good friend of mine, Jackson Warne.
“I was actually going to come back and play it anyway but then my agent got connected with CrownBet and it all came about.
“I’m super excited because I’ve always wanted to do it. I’ve always watched the World Series [of Poker] so I’m really excited to play in and to be part of the Aussie Millions Poker Championship.”
Giddey was a 2021 NBA draft pick by the Oklahoma City Thunder before being traded to the Chicago Bulls ahead of the 2024/25 season. Despite the Bulls’ ongoing woes – missing the finals yet again this past season – the Aussie provided a rare bright spot for the famous franchise, averaging 17.0 points, 9.1 assists and 8.3 rebounds per game and finishing top three for assists league-wide.
The long wait for the return of the Aussie Millions comes to an end this Friday with the first of 18 events taking place, while the Main Event itself gets underway on 4 May.
