A week after this media outlet revealed details of a legal battle brewing between rival operators PlayLive Melbourne and the Australian Poker Tour, the two companies appear to have settled their differences.
In a statement issued earlier today, PlayLive said they have now come to a mutual resolution with the APT following a coffee meeting between PlayLive co-owner Josh Abady and APT owner Tony Hachem.
“Breaking bread together is a traditional way of resolving conflict in our shared Lebanese culture and allowed both sides to speak openly, clear up misunderstandings and reaffirm a shared goal: supporting and growing the Australian poker community in Melbourne and beyond,” the statement reads.
“We’re pleased to say the matter has been resolved. The hatchet has been buried and both sides are moving forward with a renewed commitment to professionalism, mutual respect and cooperation as operators in the industry.
“PlayLive and the Australian Poker Tour share a common objective: supporting players, staff, and the broader poker ecosystem that makes this community so special. We look forward to continuing to contribute positively to that shared goal.”
The conflict between the two operators had revolved around allegations by Hachem that a senior PlayLive figure had either stolen or attempted to steal the APT’s database. PlayLive in turn alleged that Hachem had made certain threats against its staff and venue, with both companies claiming to have filed complaints with police.
So successful does the coffee meeting appear to have been that Abady is now slated to make a special guest appearance on the APT live stream during the final days of the ongoing APT Melbourne Championships this weekend, taking place at Oakwood Premier Hotel, according to the statement.
PlayLive has this week kicked off its PlayLive Grand Prix, running until 16 March.
