Sydney’s Van Tran will take the overall chip lead into Day 2 of the WSOP Circuit Sydney Main Event after topping the field on Day 1C at The Star Sydney on Sunday.

Tran finished the day with 948,000 – enough to put him ahead of Day 1B chip leader Adam Kharman and well placed to make a deep run.

Speaking with PokerMedia Australia shortly after bagging and tagging in the early hours of Monday morning, Tran said his strategy was simple: “I just pick my spots and play as best as I can.

“If the guy is aggressive, then I’ll trap them. If they’re passive, then I’ll attack.”

Asked if he would adopt a similar plan on Day 2, he replied, “I’m not sure what I’ll do tomorrow! It’s still a long way to go.”

Day 1C attracted 430 entries, taking the full field to 1,035 entries and generating a prize pool of $2,277,000. A total of 68 players made it through on Day 1C, taking the number of players set to return on Day 2 to 163.

Play will resume at 11:30am AEDT today (Monday) for Day 2 of the WSOP Circuit Sydney Main Event.
