Fresh off the back off his two biggest live tournament cashes at the recent WPT Australia series in September, Banipal Babana is well placed to make a run for another big score in the WSOP Circuit Sydney Main Event.
The Sydneysider will take a hefty stack of 724,000 into Monday’s Day 2, telling PokerMedia Australia he “feels pretty good (about being chip leader). I’m excited for Day 2.”
Predominately a cash game player, Babana says he has enjoyed playing more tournaments recently.
His best live tournament cash came in the $10,000 World Championship Warm-Up event at The Star Gold Coast at WPT Australia this year, where he placed third for a score of over $103,000.
And he has shown some decent form back here in Sydney too, having earlier this week taken the chip lead into Day 2 of the Monster Stack event before eventually falling in 15th place. Asked if he learned anything form that experience that could help him progress further in this Main Event, Babana replied, “Nah, you’ve just got to win your flips.”
Aside from putting himself in great position for another deep run this week, Babana said he would spend the next few days playing cash games rather than resting!
Day 1A of the WSOP Circuit Sydney Main Event saw 287 players take to the felt with 44 surviving, with a live prize pool of more than $630,000 and counting as we prepare for Saturday’s flight 1B.
