WSOP Circuit returning to Sydney in November

For the first time in five years, the World Series of Poker is heading to Sydney.

Just the second tournament series to be held at The Star Sydney this year after the Sydney Champs in June, the WSOP Circuit returns to the Harbour City from 14 to 16 November for a series boasting 12 WSOP-C rings plus 10 trophy side events.

The $2,500 WSOP Circuit Sydney Main Event kicks off on Friday 22 November with the first of three day 1 flights, with the final table taking place on Tuesday 26 November.

“We are genuinely excited to bring the WSOP-C rings back to Sydney and anticipate a fantastic turnout from both local and interstate players,” said Martin Coughlan, Group Poker Strategy Manager for Star Entertainment Group.

“As always, Star Poker Marketing Manager Brett Carter and our very own MCT (Tanera Nathan) will keep everyone updated on The Star Poker Sydney Facebook page. We are also pleased to confirm that PokerMedia Australia will be delivering live updates from the floor during the Main Event.”

That’s right, the PokerMedia Australia team will be providing full live reporting coverage of the Main Event, as well as regular social media updates of side events throughout the series.

And there is plenty to look forward to. The $1,150 Opening Event has always attracted a big field and stands out as a highlight of the series, as does the $1,350 Mystery Bounty from Saturday 16 November.

A $1,500 6-Max and $5,000 High Roller also standout as key events, while the schedule as a whole is described by Coughlan as one designed to cater to players of all skill levels, with buy-ins starting from just $350.

Given the popularity of the Mystery Bounty, Star has for the first time added in Mini Mystery Bounty event boasting a $900 buy-in and running for two days only.

PLO exponents also have plenty of options, from the one-day $450 turbo to a two-day $1,200 event and the $2,000 PLO High Roller.

“We are thrilled to bring the WSOP-C back to its home in Sydney,” said Coughlan. “Please join us at The Star Sydney for a thrilling poker experience that promises to be unforgettable.”

To jog the memory, the WSOP Circuit Sydney was last held in 2019 with Steven Zhou topping a field of 1,124 players to win the Main Event and a $260,904 payday.
