The most prestigious poker tournament series in all of Asia-Pacific, WPT Australia, returns to The Star Gold Coast from 12 to 25 September with a significantly expanded schedule and multiple packages to be won to the WPT World Championship at Wynn Las Vegas in December.
This year’s WPT Australia series features 23 events, up from 16 in 2023, with most of the new additions coming in the form of afternoon or evening turbos which have proved hugely popular in years past. A $5k PLO High Roller is also new to the schedule.
According to the WPT, the estimated combined prize pool to be paid out during the course of the festival is around $13 million although all eyes will be on the $8k buy-in WPT Australia Main Event. Last year, American Richard Lee outlasted a field of exactly 600 starters to take home the $838,890 first place prize.
This year’s festival will also see a total of nine WPT World Championship pathways packages to be won to either the WPT Prime Championship, WPT World Championship or WPT Ladies Championship. The WPT Ladies Championship package has been value added by Star and will go to the winner of the $675 Ladies Australian Championship, taking place on 17 and 18 September.
The Shane Warne Legacy Perpetual Trophy Event, which honors the late Shane Warne, is back too, kicking off one day before the WPT Australia Championship event and with all admin fees and proceeds from water sales to be donated to the Shane Warne Legacy.
Other highlight events on the schedule include the $1,650 Mystery Bounty starting on 14 September, the $20k Super High Roller from 19 September and the $10k World Championship Warm-Up from 23 September.
