STACKED POKER CHAMPIONSHIPS – Main Event Day 2

PAUSE!

The clock has been paused at the end of Level 22 as players bag and tag for tomorrow. 13 remain with all of them vying for the win and nothing less. Players will return at 3pm ACDT tomorrow to battle it out til the end where we will name the new 2024 Stacked Poker Championships Main Event Winner.

Milan Mehta has surged ahead as the current chip leader after having an impressive run midway through today. Mehta recounts to us coming up against Aces in his first flight where he was holding 9s and then coming in to today with 110,000. Knocking out players in style including two Hachem’s, Joe and Tony. Mehta tells us that Stacked is one of his favoured venues having had deep runs in past Main Event’s here and even final tabling one last year. He hopes to better it this year by taking out the win.

Follow along for the action tomorrow, but for tonight, Adios!

3 more hands for tonight!

With play slowing down and still 13 players remaining, it has just been announced that there will be just three more hands of play for this evening.

Tomorrow will recommence at 3pm with a new seat draw.

Marco Perri eliminated in 14th Place ($4,500)

Marco Perri sits with one red 100k chip in front of him. Just looking and waiting for that opportunity to flip the chip in. Such an opportunity just arose.

Perri: A5
Robert Damelian: QQ

Board: 39475

Looking for that wheel after the flop, it never came and unfortunately sends Perri rolling out of the Stacked Poker Room.

Slowing down…

With 15 players remaining play has slowed right down. Chips are being passed around the table, as we head into Level 22. Not much has happened in the last hour but we have seen three more eliminations. Aaron Sebastyan and Frank Tripoldi have taken 16th and 17th place, each taking $3,00 and Weng Wong in 15th, taking $4,500 for his efforts.

Wong was eliminated with an A6 v A2 where he wasn’t able to improve on the board, sending him to the cashier.

Hachem eliminated

In an intense hand on the feature table, Joe Hachem, pushes his remaining 238,000 into the pot. Milan Mehta makes the call and Yang Lei tanks for quite a while before open folding QQ. Mehta swiftly tables his cards to reveal he holds the other two queens in the deck. Hachem feels hopefully following this with two of Mehta’s outs out.

Hachem: AJ
Mehta: QQ

Board: 77J63

While some hope came on the flop with two spades for a back door flush and a pair of Jacks, it was not to be this time around for Hachem as the Queens hold.

Hii says bye to Endersby

After a long grind, Travis Endersby is eliminated by newcomer Khim Hii.

Endersby: A4
Hii: QQ

Board: 5104K6

Hii is a fresh face to the world of poker having only just started playing about six months ago. Joining the Stacked family, Hii has been honing his skills over the last few months and it seems to be paying off.

Mehta v Michael

Milan Mehta kickstarts the action by raising under the gun with 32,000. Andrew Michael responds by going over the top with 110,000. The tension escalates as Mehta decides to go all-in, and without hesitation, Michael makes the call. Michael is at risk with his 500,000 in the middle awaiting its fate.

Michael: AK
Mehta: A6

Board: 87Q68

With that little 6 on the turn, thus ends Michael’s run in this tournament and adds to Mehta’s victim tally.

Kelty comes to the party

Finding a spot to make a squeeze with the last of his chips, Joshua Kelty throws it all in and a casual Aditya Rao calls.

Kelty: A7
Rao: QQ

It looked pretty grim to start with until the flop reveals two sparkling diamonds to improve Kelty’s hand to a flush draw.

Board: 10K4

With the 4 on the turn and then the diamond in the rough on the river with the 8, Kelty doubles and a small chink in Rao’s stack is made.

Spano exits stage left

Robert Spano is walking over to the other end of the room, chip stack in hand. But it’s not the chips being used in the Main Event. It’s a fresh stack of chips for the Terminator event that is taking place alongside the Main Event tonight. Spano plays it out for us – “My KK versus their AK. They hit a four card diamond flush!” And with that he places his Terminator chips down on the table and goes to recall his story to others.

Flushed with pre-break eliminations

Just before the break we said farewell to Michael Tomeny and Tony Hachem as they are both eliminated moments before dinner. Hachem comes to us in shock. He can’t believe what just happened.

Hachem: KK
Milan Mehta: J10

Board: 2Q6K7

The action occurred post flop before the all in moment on the turn and a disappointed Hachem leaves the room following a rivered flush for Mehta.

Dinner break!

Players are now on a 40 minute dinner break. We will return shortly with an update on chip stacks from around the Stacked Social Poker Room.

Ain’t no one got time for that!

With the mic in his hand and about to announce hand for hand, the tournament director needed no such announcement as 33rd and 32nd place were eliminated simultaneously taking the remaining players straight into the money! Instead the TD says “Ain’t no one got time for that!” Referring to hand for hand action.

Mark Ostapenko (32nd) was the one that burst the bubble. Ostapenko found his Jacks were no match for Elliot Esca’s Kings and begrudgingly stands up from the table as Esca transfers the chips to his growing stack.

Lei hustles Hachem

The Feature Table is heavily stacked. With Aditya Rao on over 1mil in chips and players such as Joe Hachem and Robert Spano, it’s a table to be feared. Unfazed however, Yang Lei fearlessly claims a pot as from Hachem and continues to build his stack.

Board: 231037

Lei tables K2 as Hachem throws his cards to the muck.

Auokar finds a spot

Catching up on Table 4, to see Robert Damelian and Pierre Auokar in a hand. The board is already showing the flop of 10K5. Auokar is all in. Damelian makes the call.

Auokar: K7
Damelian: K2

Turn and River: 37

Auokar didn’t need the 7 on the river but the sigh of relief shows that it certainly didn’t hurt as he doubles up.

Back it up a little…

Just before the break, we are told that Josh Foster and Ash Gupta were duelling for a 400,000 pot. Foster being the player at risk and Gupta in for most of his stack, here are the important details…

Foster: QQ
Gupta: AA

Board: Q10282

The Queen in the window giving a beautiful set for Foster and then the 2 on the river for the boat, doubles him up, leaves Gupta short and we go into Level 17.

Stack standings

We’ve just come back from a brief break and some stack standings from around the room are as per below.

We asked Aditya Rao how he got to have so many chips. “I just ran good I guess. Got lucky in a few spots.” Sounds easy right… Rao does recall knocking out Jerry Zhang for a pot worth about 800,000. Rao held AA against the AK of Zhang, sending Zhang to the rail.

Tomeny Torments

Heading over to Table 3 now. Michael Tomeny and Daniel Dessman are in the middle of a hand. Dessman is deep in the tank. We see the bet in front of Tomeny is 30,000.

Board: 2KJ6

The chips in the middle already amount to about 100,000. An eventual call by Dessman and then a 7 on the river. It’s surprisingly checked through and Tomeny flips over KQ to win this hand from Dessman as he mucks his cards.

Michael gets one through

Checking in with Andrew Michael and seeing if he can win his own tournament here at Stacked we see him dragging more chips over to his pile. The action – Michael raises to 12,000 pre-flop and Aaron Sebastyan in the big blind comes along for the ride.

Board: 275

The 5 is peeled for the turn and Michael bumps it up to 10,000. Sebastyan relents and Michael cleans it up.

Blinds are 3,000/6,000 (6,000), Khim Hii in the cut off raises to 36,000. In the deal position, Frank Tripodi makes it 100,000. In the eyes of the rest of the table you can almost see the words ‘RUN!’ written across them as they very quickly fold it around to Hii who gets it in quick with a quick call from Tripodi.

Snaps and Snacks

Some snaps from around the Stacked Social Poker room today. Bella and Emily are holding down the fort at the bar, all set to keep you hydrated and well-fed. Meanwhile, Shay and Garry from Elite Poker Massage are on hand to ensure you stay relaxed and composed at the tables.

Geravard climbing

Also on the Feature Table, Percy Jeffs and Behrang Geravard, face off in a rumble. A pre-flop bet from Jeffs to 11,000, and a flat call from Geravard and then off to a flop.

Board: K8K

Geravard makes a calculated check before a min bet from Jeffs of 6,000. Again another flat from Geravard. the 7 on the turn sparks a raise from Geravard to 15,000. Jeffs sizes up Geravard’s stack before raising to 40,000. Once again, a flat call from Geravard.

River: 2

Wasting no time at all, Geravard continues and fires off 30,000. Jeffs didn’t need much time to think before giving up his cards over the dealer.

Zhing for Zhang

Crossing live to you from the Feature Table, and just getting the last of the action of an elimination, Ioannis Vlachoulis, takes his leave from the table after his QJ offsuit fell very short to Jerry Zhang. While Vlachoulis did hit a Queen on the flop, it was no good to the pocket rockets of Zhang.

Daps Dapping

Picture this… it’s a sunny 38 degrees in North Adelaide, you’re in a cool poker room on a table with Matty Daps, there’s about 50,000 in the pot on the flop. Then suddenly a splash of chips into the middle, making the dealer stack it up and count it out as Daps goes all in. As the dealer stacks it, Anne Beygirlioglu is contemplating a call. It’s a 299,000 raise… And then it’s a CALL from Beygirlioglu.

When will it End-ersby?

So sorry Jarrod Thatcher, but we needed to use your catchphrase for this post.

Heading over to the feature table we spy Zac Dunn throwing his cards dramatically into the middle of the table as Travis Endersby tables his cards with a smile. The chips are all in pre-flop and it’s Endersby at risk.

Endersby: AK
Dunn: AQ

Board: A942K

With that final blow of the King on the river, Dunn’s hand is crushed and Endersby gets this one through to double up.

Take a Page out of this book

Our reporter catches some head’s up action between Dan Macklin-Page and Dave Ewing over on Table 3. Macklin-Page has fired a bet and Ewing is currently in the tank. While we missed the cards on the board, we did catch a call from Ewing, before a disappointed throw of cards into the muck as Macklin-Page takes a page out of his book to rake it in.

Gaining for Gainer

Mike Gainer is certainly gaining some chips after starting the day short. Taking one just now from one of the chip leads, Robert Damelian, on a board of Q103K6, Gainer’s pile of chips has increased almost three-fold.

We are just 30 minutes in to Day 2 and have already seen 13 re-entries. The prizepool is set to reach over a juicy $300,000 at this rate.

We catch Thomas Pearce and Andrew Michael in hand. Pearce’s sunglasses are on as he stares down Michael. The flop is QJA. Michael has already fired a 4,000 bet, only to be met with a raise from Pearce for nearly his entire stack. Michael tanks before eventually folding and Pearce rakes it in.
