Sydney Champs returning to The Star Sydney in June after two-year tournament hiatus

The Star Sydney has announced the return of the Sydney Champs in 2024, some two years since the venue last hosted a major tournament series.

In social media posts, Star said the Sydney Champs would be held from 27 May to 4 June this year – one of four major tournament series to be held across Star’s NSW and Queensland properties.

It added that the combined festival prize pool for the Sydney Champs was estimated at $6 million.

Star also confirmed The Star Gold Coast as venue for WPT Australia in September, the second series to be held on the Gold Coast after WPT Prime in April.

WSOP Circuit will be the fourth Star tournament series of the year although a venue for this is yet to be announced.

The last major tournament series held at The Star Sydney was the 2022 Sydney Champs, with the company having temporarily shelved such events in the meantime while it addressed significant regulatory changes that have impacted the casino’s operating environment.

Star had, however, confirmed to PMA its intention to bring tournament’s back to Sydney, as well as to the new $3.6 billion Queen’s Wharf Brisbane development, due to open in April.
