The World Poker Tour has released its full 2024 schedule for the Asia-Pacific region, with a total of six stops between January and October including two stops in Australia.
Pending the receipt of necessary approvals and final confirmation from organisers, first on the agenda for those of us Down Under will be the return of WPT Prime Gold Coast, to be held at The Star Gold Coast from 10 to 23 April.
Last year’s WPT Prime Gold Coast Main Event attracted a massive field of 1,224 – the most for any WPT Prime tournament ever held outside of the United States – and was won by China’s Shang Ye for a cool $358,453.
Sydney crusher Jarrod Thatcher also enjoyed a successful week, winning the Big Bounty and making the final table of the Mystery Bounty to be named Player of the Series.
Also scheduled on the 2024 calendar but also pending final confirmation is WPT Australia, scheduled to take place from 5 to 25 September. No venue has yet been decided, with potential destinations including The Star Gold Coast, The Star Sydney and Star’s soon-to-open $3.6 billion Queen’s Wharf Brisbane development.
Last month’s WPT Australia event, featuring an increased $8k Main Event buy-in, attracted a field of exactly 600 with American Richard Lee taking the title and its $838,890 first prize. Daniel Hachem was later named Player of the Series.
The 2024 WPT Asia-Pacific calendar kicks off with the first ever full tour stop in Cambodia in January, with two more WPT Prime legs in Vietnam and Taiwan in May and August respectively, and finishing off with WPT Vietnam Passport from 4 to 14 October.
