WPT confirms dates for 2023 WPT Australia Main Event with increased $8k buy-in

The World Poker Tour has confirmed the dates for the second half of its 21st season, including the return of the WPT Australia main tour stop.

According to details published on Friday, the WPT Australia main event will run from Friday 22 to Wednesday 27 September 2023 at The Star Gold Coast. PokerMedia Australia understands the full series is likely to kick off from Thursday 14 September 2023.

After the inaugural WPT Australia attracted a hefty field of 710 entries, the WPT said the 2023 event will not only include an extra day in its structure – subject to regulatory approval – but will also feature an increased $8,000 main event buy-in, up from $5,400 last year. The final table will be livestreamed on WPT YouTube and Twitch channels.

“As we build out the remainder of the schedule for Season XXI of the World Poker Tour, we are happy to be returning to some familiar WPT hosts, while we also welcome a first-ever stop in Liechtenstein, continuing our pledge to bring poker to loyal players around the globe,” said WPT CEO Adam Pliska.

Also returning in the second half of Season XXI is WPT Prime Taiwan, to be held at the Chinese Texas Hold’em Poker Association in Taipei from 17 to 21 August.
