Winners are grinners: 2022 WSOP Circuit Gold Coast results round-up

There’s been no shortage of action and excitement at the 2022 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Circuit Gold Coast series, with five of the 12 Jostens championship rings already given away. Without further ado, here’s our first wave of side event results, brought to you by our friends at The Star Gold Coast.

$550 Turbo: King Kossyrev reigns supreme

After Chris Zenenos broke his drought with victory in the Opening Event, Jan Kossyrev shipped the Super Turbo in the early hours of Monday morning heads-up against fellow Gold Coast stalwart Rod Batoz to take home his first ring and $17,733 in prize money.

The $550 buy-in tournament brought in a field of 132 entries, including three-time WPT League Champion Adam Thaggard, as well as four-time APT trophy winner and Player of the Series crusher, Sam Adams.

$1,500 Action Clock: Thatcher raises the roof

There were plenty of celebrations in the Sydney camp too, as Jarrod Thatcher took down the $1,500 Action Clock on Monday night, topping a field of exactly 200 entries to cash out for $66,581.

The win here at The Star Gold Coast continues his run of great form over the last two years, including his biggest live result to date after he became the first Australian in history to win a GUKPT Main Event, defeating a field of 390 entries in London for a top prize of £87,530 (AU$157,491) last July.

$660 PLO: Wong on song

Finally, as the $5K High Roller was reaching its crescendo, Darren Wong picked up his first WSOP ring and more than $20,000 in prize money after defeating Michael ‘Hendo’ Henderson heads-up in the $660 PLO.

The final table of that tournament also featured Queensland veteran Carlos Youssef, who finished third, along with Ehsan Amiri, who made headlines after last year’s epic run in the WSOP Main Event, where he finished in 59th place.
