
The WPT Australia Main Event has built itself up to be one of the biggest single tournaments ever held on Aussie soil, adding to the continued success of this series here at The Star Gold Coast.
Last night’s second WPT Australia Main Event flight was locked out at 10:30pm AEST, good for a total of 710 entries and a total prize pool worth $3.55 million. Star Poker Gold Coast and WPT staff have informed PokerMedia Australia that the top 89 players will finish in the money, with a first prize worth approximately $635,000.
Leading the 273 survivors back into today’s Day 2 is Kelvin Li, who bagged up 499,500 in chips, followed by Michael Wang (440,000), Michael Tran (405,500), James Harris (386,000) and Main Event Day 1A chip leader, Alexander Alford (363,000).
Plenty of Australia’s finest will be returning today, featuring all our recent Australian WPT Champions from the last two years in Hari Varma, Yang Lei, Will Davies and Mark Fester.
Other notables still in the mix include Robert Campbell, Sean Ragozzini, Ehsan Amiri and Mike Maddocks, along with Australian Poker Hall of Famers Leo Boxell, Gary Benson, Jarred Graham and 2006 WPT Five Diamond World Poker Classic Champion, Joe Hachem.
