Ecstatic and surreal! Chris Tran wins WPT Australia Opening Event Mystery Bounty

Chris Tran is the first player to leave a vacancy in the trophy display here at The Star Gold Coast, walking away with the goods after taking down the Opening Event Mystery Bounty of the WPT Australia series.

Tran followed in the footsteps of The Star Sydney Champs Mystery Bounty Champion, Seyed Nasab, by claiming the Grand Bounty worth a whopping $54,000 – the largest prize of its kind in Australian history.

This victory marks the second time in the space of a few months where a Mystery Bounty event at The Star has seen the recipient of the Grand Bounty go all the way to win the entire tournament.

“I feel ecstatic, the whole day feels surreal!” Tran told PokerMediaAustralia in his post-win chat. “I’ve been hunting this for so long … it’s really nice!”

Last night’s victory was the 29-year-old’s best Sydneysider’s best result to date, with Tran having put together a “string of sixths, fifths, and fourths” since turning pro in 2017.
