Inaugural WPT World Championship to feature 23-event schedule

The upcoming WPT World Championship series at Wynn Las Vegas in December will feature a massive 23-event schedule and guarantee more than US$22 million in prize pools, the World Poker Tour announced overnight.

The historic series, to be held at Wynn Las Vegas, will also include the largest single live tournament guarantee in the history of poker, with the WPT World Championship itself boasting a massive US$15 million guarantee.

Adding to the events announced by WPT in June, which also include the Prime Championship and the Wynn Mystery Bounty, another 12 events have now been added to the schedule covering No Limit Hold’em, H.O.R.S.E., Omaha 8-or-Better, and 8-Game Mix tournaments.

“Our goal is to develop the WPT World Championship into one of the most talked about poker events of the year,” said Adam Pliska, WPT CEO. “Partnering with Wynn Las Vegas has allowed us to put the player experience first and the festival schedule reflects that.”

The festival kicks off on 1 December with a US$500,000 guarantee No Limit Hold’em event that has a $600 buy-in and six starting flights.

The Wynn Mystery Bounty, running from 16 to 19 December, will include a US$2 million guaranteed and offer players a chance to draw for cash prizes up to $100,000 for a buy-in of US$1,600.

“We are proud of the reputation Wynn Las Vegas has for running world-class events,” said Ryan Beauregard, Executive Director of Poker Operations at Wynn Las Vegas. “In partnership with WPT, the upcoming World Championship will be no different and solidify our spot as a major poker destination.”
