2022 Deaf Poker Australia Championship series announced

Auckland Aces: 2018 & 2019 DPA State of Origin Champions

After almost three years, Deaf Poker Australia‘s flagship poker event will officially relaunch at The Star Sydney in what promises to be the most accessible series for the Deaf community.

In a statement released on social media last week, DPA announced that they have joined forces with Star Poker Sydney to host the 2022 DPA Championship from October 6-9.

It will be the first time since 2013 that The Star Sydney have staged this series, which brought in 118 players for the Main Event that year and still holds the record for the largest Deaf tournament ever held in the Southern Hemisphere.

A total of six tournaments have been scheduled over four days, with four tournaments open to everyone – the Auslan Poker Open Bounty, Pairs Tag Team NLH, the 15/15/15 Hyper Turbo Action Clock and a $675 6-Max NLH – providing an invaluable opportunity for all players to interact, compete with and support the DPA community.

There will also be two games exclusive to Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing (HOH) participants: the $200 buy-in DPA Championship Main Event and the $1,000 buy-in DPA State of Origin teams event.

“The Australian Deaf community has been waiting so patiently for the DPA Championship to return,
and we are thrilled to bring this event back after so long,” said DPA Chief Executive Officer, Nikolas
Schlie.

“This tournament means so much to us, our players and supporters, and we’re delighted to
have the support of Star Poker Sydney and the wider poker community in order to make this happen.”

As one of the country’s premier casino poker destinations, Star Poker Sydney’s room configuration already provides ease of access and comfort for all players, with tournament clock screens well positioned throughout the space, as well as USB charger ports and QR codes for food and beverage orders embedded in each table.

And to further enhance the player and viewer experience for the global Deaf community, both the DPA State of Origin and Main Event will incorporate RFID feature table broadcasts on Twitch and Facebook, along with news and Live Reporting coverage provided by PokerMedia Australia.

“As an organisation that prides itself on fostering an environment where everyone feels welcomed and included, The Star is thrilled to be hosting the DPA Championship,” said The Star Sydney General Manager of Table Games, Sandy Thefs.

“I trust the players will enjoy the first-class hospitality provided by our team members and wish them all the best.”
