Adelaide’s Gavin Best has emerged on top of the pack after a marathon day in The Star Sydney Champs Main Event.
The South Australian grinder bagged 8,150,000 in chips at the end of the night, best of the 14 survivors from the starting field of 197 that returned for Day 2 of the record-breaking $2,000 buy-in tournament.
With a string of solid results in the last year, starting with a runner-up finish at the Star Gold Coast Summer Series Main Event, Best won the WPT Prime Gold Coast $5K Challenge just last month for $119,174 – his first six-figure score – before making the final tables of both the APLPT Adelaide Centurion and Jackstar Super High Roller last month.
Best had several key spots going his way, including flopping quads earlier to eliminate Danny Yacoub before eliminating Bruno Calfapietra after play was down to three tables to start his non-stop trend towards the top of the counts.

Poker partners Yu Chen and Jun Wang are also still in the mix, bagging 1,900,000 and 675,000 respectively for Day 3, along with Liem Tran, Milan Stojkovic, Travis O’Grady, Roman Priplotski and 2022 WSOP Millionaire Maker final tablist Yita Choong.
