Great expectations: Yu Chen bags Star Sydney Champs Main Event Day 1C chip lead

Melbourne’s Yu Chen, who finished third in the 2022 WPTDeepStacks Sydney Opening Event back in April, has come out on top after Day 1C of the Star Sydney Champs Main Event.

Chen bagged 672,000 in chips, with Chris Yu (596,000), Qais Shanasa (588,000) Phat Nguyen (555,000) and Evaldas Stanevicius (539,000) unofficial round out the unofficial top five. In all, 91 players found bags today.

Speaking with PokerMedia Australia at the end of proceedings, Chen revealed that she very nearly didn’t play this event, as her and her partner of six years Jun Wang are expecting a baby girl in the very near future.

“I’m feeling good, I’m not feeling stressed, felt happy to give it a crack today,” Chen said. “I woke up and I just had a feeling that maybe I should give it a go and came down to play.”

Chen added that this would be the last tournament she would be playing for the foreseeable future, but is hopeful the run good will continue through to tomorrow.
