For the second time in the 2022 Star Sydney Champs, the chip lead for a Day 1 flight has been claimed by Nurlan Boobekov.
The Sydney grinder, who bagged the chip lead on the very first day of the series in the Opening Event before going on to finish third, will be taking 787,000 in chips through to Day 2 of the $2,000 buy-in Main Event after another massive day on the felt.
Speaking to PokerMedia Australia after the conclusion of play, Boobekov said that he felt very good towards the end as things began to come together.

“You just have to enjoy it!” Boobekov said. “It doesn’t come around often so when it does, you gotta take it as it comes.”
Asked if he had any advice for anyone playing Day 1C, Boobekov replied: “Honestly, play with common sense. Don’t have to try to hero, don’t have to try to bluff … and don’t play too tight.”
Other big stacks to have bagged up today include Stan Levitin (700,000), Jin Li (662,000), and Tony Tavella (612,000), with Brent Goldingham rounding out the top five with 497,000.
The third and final Day 1 flight of The Sydney Champs kicks off tomorrow at 12:30pm AEST; be sure to follow pokermedia.com.au for our continued Live Reporting coverage, and tune into the Star Poker Sydney feature table stream on Twitch.
