Family ties: Alex Yazbeck tops the counts after Day 1C of Star Sydney Champs Opening Event

The Yazbeck family have once again stamped their authority at The Star Sydney Champs after Alex Yazbeck ended Day 1C of the Opening Event as chip leader.

The Sydney solicitor quietly went about his business finish the session this evening with 413,000 in chips, putting himself in good stead for Day 2.

The Yazbeck name is already synonymous in Sydney poker; along with father Mark and younger brother Patrick, the trio have been tearing up the felt here at The Star Sydney over the last six years, with all three of them making the final table of the $440 Turbo Event back in 2019, where he finished second.

Yazbeck then followed that up with a third-place finish in the $1,100 6-Max Event for $38,167 – still his best career cash to date.

Yazbeck beamed with pride as he spoke about his family’s achievements, but all that paled in comparison to how he felt about becoming a father for the first time just 11 months ago.

“Honestly, my wife and my daughter … they’re everything to me,” Yazbeck said.  “Being a dad is beautiful and such a privilege.  I can’t wait to go home and see them!”

Day 2 of The Star Sydney Champs Opening Event will begin tomorrow (Saturday) at 12:30pm AEST; bookmark pokermedia.com.au for live updates and tune into the Star Poker Sydney feature table stream on Twitch.
