Four of a kind: Knights, Spano close out historic Star Gold Coast Champs series

Queensland entrepreneur Nikki Knights has rounded out a monumental all-female quadrella in the Star Gold Coast Champs, taking down the $350 buy-in Final Wave Wipeout.

Only moments after Jennifer Cassell’s historic win in the $1,500 buy-in Main Event, Knights topped a field of 101 entries for a top prize of $9,856, defeating Ryan Cotter heads-up for the title.

The accomplishment certainly wasn’t lost on the Gold Coast liquor and wine merchant, who joined Cassell, Luci Bonaccorso and Michelle Cochrane on the Star Gold Coast Champs winner’s list in the wake of the celebration of International Women’s Day a fortnight ago.

“To be honest, this was only the ninth tournament I’ve ever played in, I normally just grind cash games,” Knights said, “but it’s also been the fourth final table I’ve made out of those nine.”

“Being a female, you’re so intuitive and it helps in such a male-dominated sport. I love poker so much … I really dig the synergy and I’m thrilled to be amongst an incredible group of women who have all had such great success!”
