South Australian ex-pat Chin Wang has defeated a field of 161 entries to win the Star Gold Coast Champs $660 Big Wave.
Now residing in Queensland, Wang was ecstatic to have finally laid claim to his first major title, having finished runner-up to Sam Haddad in the Star Poker Gold Coast Summer Series Opening Event last November. This also marked Wang’s third five-figure score in four months, adding to his third-place finish at the APT Brisbane Season V Main Event earlier this year.
Wang dedicated his victory to former Adelaide Casino Poker Manager David Galpin, who passed away last year after a two-year battle with cancer.

The final table was a cross-generational showcase of Aussie poker talent: Josh Norvock added to his ever-growing poker CV with his runner-up finish and registered another FT appearance alongside Martin Ward after they both reached the Summer Series Main Event finale last December.
It was also a great day for Melbourne grinder Stephen ‘The Big Show’ Topakas, registering a podium finish in his first live poker tournament in almost two years, whilst fourth-place finisher Shaun Elliott almost completed the ultimate fairytale comeback, doubling up three times in quick succession after being reduced to as little as 30,000 in chips in the closing stages.
