
Sydney’s Vahe Hovagimian has bagged up a monster stack after the completion of Day 1 of the Star Gold Coast Champs $660 Big Wave.
After a frenetic day of action across the felt, Hovagimian – who “hit a purple patch” in the closing stages of the tournament after the successive eliminations of Russell Fogarty and Duncan McKinnon – will return as the overall chip leader after bagging 587,000.
Following closely behind is Queensland poker stalwart Martin Ward (306,000), with Peter Apostolou (266,000), Shaun Elliot (265,000) and Ricky Kroesen (247,500) rounding out the top five.

The $660 buy-in tournament brought in plethora of Aussie poker talent, including Jennifer Cassell, Ken Demlakian, Josh Norvock, Bert Perry, Omer Silajdzija, Hussein Hassan and Anthony Cierco.
From the 161 total entries taken in today, 37 players will return to battle it out for share of the $96,600 prize pool and a first-place payout worth $25,765.
