Joe Sandaev has won the Stacked Poker Championship Main Event after producing a masterful final table performance to defeat overnight chip leader Matt D’Apollonio for the title.
Sandaev, who also reached the final table of the WPTDeepStacks Gold Coast Main Event last year, outlasted a record field of 181 entries to collect $75,000 after doing a heads-up deal with D’Apollonio.
Despite entering heads-up play as a 2.5:1 dog, the 32-year-old family man was relentless in his pursuit of D’Apollonio’s stack – gradually chipping away without playing a single large pot until the final hand of the night, when a short-stacked D’Apollonio shoved with K♠9♥ and was called by Sandaev with 10♥8♣ on a 6♥10♠9♣board. The turn and river bricked to send the title Sandaev’s way.
His win capped a memorable week at Stacked Social, with the second running of the Stacked Poker Championship seeing a near 50% increase in Main Event entries and plenty of familiar faces taking part. They included Billy “The Croc” Argyros, Jonathan Karamalikis and Steve “The Big Show” Topakas among others.
Congratulations to Sandaev and to Adelaide’s Stacked Social on a hugely successful event and one that is guaranteed to become a popular regular fixture on the Australian poker calandear.
