A long and some may say crazy day of action in the Stacked Poker Championship Main Event ultimately saw Gabby Xiourouppa emerge as the largest stack of two consecutive Day 1 Flights.
Xiourouppa finished the day with a healthy 206,000 on Day 1B, placing him well ahead of Day 1C chip leader Matt Dapollonio although still trailing Day 1A’s Kit Manuel, who remains the man to catch with 219,500.
The hand that propelled Xiourouppa to his big stack was one of the more remarkable in recent memory following a three-way all-in on a flop of 3♥3♠4♣.
Xiourouppa flipped over 7♦7♥ but was trailing both Matthew Rawson and Neb Blanusa with 10♣3♣ and 7♣3♦ respectively.
Incredibly, the river was the 7♠ with Xiourouppa hitting the case card from which he would never look back.
In all reality it should have been Dapollonio taking the largest stack into Day 2 if not for the very final hand of Flight 1C.
Heading into the hand with well over 250,000, Dapollonio called the shoves of both Alex Markopolous and Joel Williams holding only over A♣5♣ and didn’t improve against their pocket pairs. Nevertheless, he still heads into Day 2 as one of the bigger stacks with 173,500.
With Flight 1B attracting 61 entries and Flight 1C another 30, our tally ahead of Day 2 is now 159 entries – smashing the 126 who entered last year. Once again the winner is guaranteed a GTD $100,000 payday.
