The Australian Poker League has confirmed that the APL Million will return in 2021, with a busy 30-event schedule to be hosted at The Star Gold Coast from 11 to 23 August.
Almost 18 months since the APL Million was last held at The Star Sydney in March 2020 – as it turned out the last casino-based tournament series before COVID-19 shut the industry down – the return of its annual flagship event represents another milestone for the APL this year following the successful launch of the APL Poker Tour in February.
“We’re delighted to be announcing the APL Million Gold Coast series in conjunction with The Star Gold Coast,” said APL Major Events Director Joel Williams.
“With events ranging from $80 to $2,500, this series provides all poker players the opportunity to experience a premium tournament series at one of the country’s premier poker locations.
“APL and The Star are both committed to poker and we feel confident that the APL Million Gold Coast will become an absolute ‘must attend’ destination within the Australian poker landscape.”
This year’s APL Million will feature five Day 1 flights to be held on Saturday 14, Sunday 15, Wednesday 18, Thursday 19 and Friday 20 August, followed by two separate Day 2 fields on Saturday 21 August, starting at 10.30am and 6.30pm respectively.
All remaining players will then come together on day 3 before the final table on Monday 23 August. The main event is expected to generate a prize pool of around $1 million.
Other features of the 13-day festival are the $2,500 buy-in The Centurion starting on Monday 16 August and the $1,100 6-max Shot Clock from Tuesday 17 August.
The APL Million will be the second major tournament series to be held at The Star Gold Coast this year following the enormously successful WPTDeepStacks Gold Coast in May. A WPT main tour event is also planned for The Star Gold Coast in October.
This year represents the fifth rendition of the APL Million since its launch in 2017.
