The 2021 Johnnie Walker Classic in Mount Gambier has been put on hold until further notice as a result of the latest lockdown currently being enforced in Victoria due to the state’s latest coronavirus outbreak.
Originally scheduled for the Queen’s Birthday long weekend from June 11-13 at the iconic Jens Hotel in South Australia, organisers unanimously voted to postpone the highly anticipated mini-series indefinitely.
As per the statement released via social media by organisers yesterday:
“The decision by the committee was based on the safety and welfare of our players and the public during this recent outbreak [and] also largely due to our amazing and very supportive Victorian players we call our great friends who will unfortunately be unable to attend.”
“Two-thirds of our entries were from Victoria. If we were to go ahead with the Classic, it would not have had the hype and excitement as anticipated.”
Players are assured that all funds received are safe and advised that anyone who has purchased their tournament buy-ins in advance may either elect to transfer their funds to next year’s event or receive a full refund.
PokerMedia Australia have since been in touch with Jens Poker committee members Martin Pink and Ivey Fox, who will be joining us in a special PMA LIVE broadcast on our Facebook page later today.
More to come.
