Australia’s 2005 WSOP main event champion Joe Hachem has fallen agonizingly short of a second WSOP gold bracelet, finishing third in the $10,000 PLO Hi-Lo 8 or Better Championship in Las Vegas.

Entering Monday’s final table sitting third in chips behind eventual winner Nick Schulman and Brian Hastings – both former bracelet winners – Hachem started well enough by busting two players on the very first hand of the day.

But having outlasted the majority of the 193-player field, he was eventually eliminated by Schulman with the finish line in sight,

Hachem collected US$201,041 for his troubles although it was the bracelet he really wanted, tweeting shortly after, “How do I not win this thing? Damn it … I’ll feel better later I know.”

This was the second third-placed finish for an Australian in less than a week, with Joel Feldman having also come close in the $10,000 PLO Championship for US$463,814.

Robert Campbell won Australia’s only bracelet of this year’s WSOP so far in the $1,500 Limit 2-7 Lowball Triple Draw, one of his three final table appearances.
