Inaugural Australasian Poker Challenge announced at The Star

A new tournament poker series will be hosted by The Star in Sydney. To be known as the Australasian Poker Challenge, the 9-event series will replace the ANZPT that has been held at a similar time for the past seven years. The events that make up the APC range from $330 to $5000 to enter. The tournament will begin on Tuesday March 8 with the $330 NLH Opening Event and culminate on Monday March 21 with the final table of the $2200 Main Event.

The Star has also confirmed that the poker room has required another temporary move in location to make way for the development of what is to be expected, the permanent home of poker at The Star. After a number of moves over recent years, Star Poker regulars will be pleased when the permanent home is complete.

The most recent major tournament series held at The Star was the Star Poker Summer Series in December 2015. The Main Event attracted 385 players at $2000 and was won by local Sydneysider Michael Levy. The previous ANZPT event in March 2015 attracted 445 players at $2300. That event was won by Jim Psaros. Organisers of the APC will be hoping the inaugural tournament will attract similar strong fields and break through the 500-player mark in the Main Event.

PokerMedia Australia is proud to enter the sixth year of our association with Star Poker. We’re also excited to have another 6-handed event named after PMA. Our $1100 No Limit Hold’em Event will be a six-handed affair and include one re-entry opportunity. We’re hoping to have a field of over 150 players to match the efforts during the Summer Series. Keep up to date live during the event with our live reporting team, who will also be covering the $5k Challenge and Main Event.

The battle for the 2016 Australasia Poker Challenge $2200 Main Event title is scheduled to kick-off on Thursday March 17 with the first of three Day 1 flights beginning at 6.15pm. Satellites are currently underway, starting at a buy-in of $250. Other events on the schedule include the $440 No Limit Hold’em Turbo; $440 No Limit Hold’em Teams Event; $550 Pot Limit Omaha w/ re-entry; $5000 No Limit Hold’em Challenge w/ re-entry; and the $550 No Limit Hold’em Bounty event on the final Sunday.
