6-handed success for Seymour

Michael Seymour has overcome a tough heads-up battle with the experienced Michel Bouskila to win the ANZPT $1100 Poker Media 6-handed no-limit hold’em event at The Star. Over several levels of heads-up play, the chip lead switched back and forth many times. However, the final hand saw Seymour raise, Bouskila push all-in for 800k which Seymour insta-called. Seymour tabled A-Q to Bouskila’s A-5. The board ran out K-J-6-J-3 and a new champion was crowned, ending Bouskila’s run in a well-deserved 2nd place.

A decent field of 121 entries, including one re-buy available to each player, pushed the title prize up over $30,000. However, during the competitive heads-up battle when both Seymour and Bouskila had similar chip stacks of 900k, a deal was done to ensure each a decent reward, leaving the trophy and a few extra dollars up for grabs. Although each player could sit a little more comfortably, the competition continued for some time, both desperately seeking the title win.

The final table of seven players began at 4pm Monday afternoon after a fourteen-hour session the previous day. Seymour had started with a slight chip lead but Michael Doodson, Joel Cohen and Michael Tran were all within 60k of his stack. As the final table played out, it was Seymour who proved the dominant player, knocking out five of his final table opponents.

Michael Seymour, from Sydney, was a popular winner for his calculated yet friendly nature and he was able to use his actuarial background to his advantage. Now working on a start-up business within mobile technologies, he’s not been a regular player of the major events due to his previous work commitments. Now with a little more freedom and a win under his belt, all that may change.
