After five days of play, Joshua Redhouse sits atop a field of 448 entries that started play in the ANZPT Sydney Main Event No Limit Hold’em $2,200 event. The action began on Thursday March 20 with the first of two Day 1 flights, and finished on Monday evening, crowning Joshua as the champion and earning him the trophy and a $225,300* cheque.
The payout bubble burst on Saturday evening (Day 2) when the field was reduced to 54 players. Play continued until 37 players were left. As such those 37 hopefuls took their seats on Day 3 playing for the glory of the final table.
Play continued through Sunday until the final table of nine players was formed around 8pm that evening. The final table commenced on Monday March 24 with the nine players all vying for the championship.
Jazz Mathers had led the tournament almost the whole way through, taking the chip lead from Day 1 into Day 2 and heading into the final table with a lead chip count of 1837000.
Unfortunately for Mathers and the rest of the final table, Joshua Redhouse showed some amazing skill and timed his aggression all too well to outlast his opponents. The final hand saw Peco ‘the Magician’ Stojanovski move all-in for 1.3million holding Ax-6x. He was quickly called by Redhouse, holding 8x-8x. The flop came the 9x-4x-7, the turn was the repeat 7x and the river Qx. Redhouse’s pair of eights held and confirmed his status as the Main Event Champion.
Final table results were as follows*:
1st Josh Redhouse – $225,300
2nd Peco Stojanovski – $143,800
