STAR POKER: Michel continues 2013 to remember with Opening Event win

The biggest edition of the Star Poker Summer Series (SPSS) is underway at The Star in Sydney. For the first time in the seven-year history of the series, the Main Event is being played under the auspices of the National Poker League and Asian Poker Tour.

Combining the NPL500 and The Star Poker Summer Series into one blockbuster poker festival, this premier event is expected to have a prize pool of between AUD $1-$1.5 million. This $2000 buy-in Main Event will be played from December 5-8.

Also added to the SPSS schedule for the first time is the ever-popular State of Origin series. This invitation-only event, which features many of the nation’s leading players, is being played at The Star on Wednesday, December 4.

Like all major series at The Star, the schedule kicked-off with the $330 buy-in No Limit Hold’em Event, which drew a field of 819 players and generated a prizepool just shy of $250,000. After three days of play, Michel Bouskila added another notch to an amazing year when he emerged victorious to claim the first prize of more than $55,000.

Bouskila has cashed in Opening Events on major Star schedules four times since 2010 but broke the duck in impressive fashion by defeating Mario Boast heads-up. Already in 2013, Bouskila had won the $1100 buy-in Six-handed event at the Aussie Millions and final-tabled the Seniors Event at the 2013 WSOP. Both results paid more than USD $115,000 in prizemoney.
