NEWS: The Star, NPL to team up for Summer Series Main Event

The Star Poker Summer Series, Sydney’s major annual tournament series, is set to undergo a significant facelift with the news that The Star is teaming up with the National Poker League (NPL) to bring you this year’s Main Event.

Formerly known as the NPL 500, the $2000 Main Event replaces both the NPL 500 and the $5000 Star Poker Summer Series Main Event with players able to buy-in directly or satellite in either through the NPL or via The Star, who will be running their own satellites from October onwards.

The NPL has already satellited in 150 players and it is hoped the final field will break The Star’s record field of 561 players that contested the inaugural APPT Sydney Main Event back in 2007 (won by Star Poker ambassador Grant Levy).

Over the past three years the NPL’s major events have evolved. From the ground-breaking NPL500 at East Leagues Club to the 2011 NPL500 II at Parramatta Leagues Club, then last year’s NPL500 III found its home at Sydney’s fabulous casino The Star.

A field of 575 would create a $1 million prize pool and the early talk is that we could even see a prize pool pushing $1.5 million. The Star Poker Summer Series will kick-off in late November with the new Main Event scheduled for December 5-8.

We look forward to seeing a record field assemble at The Star for what promises to be one of the most significant events in Australian poker history. PMA is proud to be associated with this event and will again be on the rail reporting live for this historic occasion.
