WSOP DAILY – MAY 31: Reporter writes happy ending in Casino event

Highlights from day 3 of the 2013 WSOP (May 31)

Poker pros will be glaring jealously at the live reporting desk over the next six weeks as that’s where the first bracelet of the 2013 World Series of Poker will reside.

A writer with well-known media outlet PokerNews, Chad Holloway took out the $500 Casino Employees Event, the first prize of $84,915 and a WSOP gold bracelet.

This year’s Casino Employees event drew 898 entries, up 22 per cent on last year’s field of 732. It is the largest field for the event since 2006. The increase in participation resulted in a prize pool of $404,100, which was shared among the top 90 finishers.

This is the 17th time the WSOP has hosted a Casino Employees event. It ran briefly from 1983-1985 then became a permanent fixture on the schedule in 2000.

• Brendon Rubie has pocketed his first cash of the 2013 WSOP, finishing 47th for $9743 in the $5000 No Limit Hold’em Eight-handed tournament, event 2 on the schedule.

Day two ended with 27 players and Rafal Michalowski leading the field in pursuit of the first prize of $553,906. Other players to cash in this event included Jesse Sylvia, Brandon Cantu, JJ Liu, Antonio Esfandiari and Brian Lemke.

Event 2: $5000 No Limit Hold’em Eight-handed (481 players, 56 players paid, 194 players remain, prizepool USD $2,260,700) top 10 after day 2

• The first $1000 No Limit Hold’em Re-Entry tournament (event 3) has proved a resounding success with 3164 buy-ins across the two day one flights and 543 players returning for day two. The event has generated a massive prizepool of $2,847,600 with the winner set to earn $491,360.

Other tournaments to kick-off today were Event 4 ($1500 No Limit Hold’em Six-handed) and Event 5 ($2500 Omaha/Seven Card Stud Hi-Low 8-or Better).
