It’s the weekend when the Aussie Millions Main Event champion is decided, but anticipation is equally high in Newcastle for the latest running of Southern Cross Poker’s (SCP’s) East Coast Poker Championship (ECPC).
Organisers have confirmed that the guarantee will again be $30,000 but, based on the previous ECPC that generated a pool of more than $37,000, hopes are high that the $40k barrier may be broken this weekend.
With the buy-in remaining at only $200, SCP are proud that this event is the largest regularly scheduled event (played four times annually) held in Newcastle.
In an added bonus for players, three more WSOP Asia Pacific packages are included in the ECPC prizepool. The packages are valued at $1800 and include return airfares from Newcastle to Melbourne; two nights’ accommodation; entry to the $1100 NLHE Accumulator bracelet event (commencing April 4); and a Team SCP WSOP shirt.
Qualifiers from SCP regions in Brisbane (City), Brisbane (South), Hunter Valley, Newcastle, New England, Central Coast and North Coast will converge on Mayfield Diggers (Hanbury St, Mayfield, NSW) for this Sunday’s ECPC, with registration open at 11am, and cards in the air an hour later. Players will start with 25,000 in chips with levels of 25 minutes.
• In other news from Southern Cross Poker, the League recently confirmed that events have commenced in Victoria for the first time, with five venues on board in Williamstown, St Kilda, Tullamarine and Laverton.
SCP events will also soon kick-off in Tasmania, with details to be announced in coming weeks. For all the details, check out www.southerncrosspoker.com.au.
