Respectively known for holding two of the country’s biggest poker tournaments, Save Our Sons and the Australian Poker League have officially joined forces in the name of charity.
Save Our Sons is a children’s charity organisation committed to raising desperately needed funds for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) research.
DMD is a severe muscle-wasting disease, which mainly affects young boys. It has a 100 per cent mortality rate and once diagnosed most children are confined to a wheelchair by age 12, and do not live past their late teens. There is no cure, and no child has ever survived.
As part of its fundraising calendar of events, Save Our Sons holds an annual Play For A Cure – Casino Royale poker tournament. Attended by more than 1000 players including 60 celebrity names, Play For A Cure raises more than $100,000 every year.
“Australian Poker League has always been a great supporter of this event and we are thrilled with the company’s decision to become a Lifetime Partner of our organisation,” Save Our Sons Founder and CEO Elie Eid said.
"The Australian Poker League has committed to a minimum $50,000 per year sponsorship, which includes a week of awareness tournaments for Save Our Sons, as well as being a major sponsor of our Casino Royale event.
“Given we already hold one of the country’s biggest poker events, a partnership with Australian Poker League is a perfect match and we are thrilled with this new relationship.”
Australian Poker League Chief Operations Officer Brayden Haynes also expressed his delight at the partnership.
“Full House Group and its brands Australian Poker League and the 888Poker League are tremendously proud to be partnering with the spirited Save Our Sons organisation,” he said.
“We are moved and inspired by their deep determination to find a cure for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and we look forward to engaging the poker community in support of these ambitions.
“Together with our network and resources, our aim is to provide a contribution in excess of $50,000 to go directly towards breakthrough clinical trials to find a cure for DMD.”
The partnership between Save Our Sons and Australian Poker League will be officially launched at Full House Group’s MAIN EVENT poker tournament to be held at Crown Melbourne from February 21-24.
