A massive weekend of poker at the Canterbury Hurlstone Park RSL ended with more than $50,000 in cash and prizes awarded to players from across Sydney and NSW.
Action kicked off with the latest edition to the APL Sydney Champs, which was another sellout of 400 players thus ensuring a maximum prizepool of $28,000 to be shared among the top 32 finishers.
The final table kicked-off at midnight (after 13 hours of play) with Dave Tomson holding a big chip lead. The pivotal hand was played four-handed when the A-K of Steve Giorgioni KOed Kushlani Sitsabesan and Tomson to set-up a heads-up duel with Nas Lavulo.
It then took another two hours before Lavulo (pictured left) to eliminate Giorgioni to earn the first prize of $10,000, while Giorgioni took home $4000.
The next instalment of the Sydney Champs will be played at Warilla Bowls & Recreation Club in February 2013.

• A massive field of 481 players took their seats the day after the APL Sydney Champs for the November edition of the $25,000 NSW Pro Open.
Anthony Nguyen signalled his intentions after the bubble burst and looked poised for a deep run after sending the ever-dangerous John Azzi (seeking his third Pro Open title) to the rail in eighth.
Elshan Mammadov (fifth), Despina Yiannakoulias (sixth) and Zoran Souanovic (seventh) fell agonisingly short of seats in the first MAIN EVENT for 2013 but have already earned a spot for the next NSW State Champs.
After David Chilcott was sent packing in fourth, Nguyen’s charge continued to the finish line – he railed Daniel Magrin and Rosalinda Etheridge in short order to secure the title of November 2012 NSW Pro Open Champion along with a $17,000 TeamWSOP package for 2013, a State Champs seat and $1000 in cash.
The next NSW Pro Open will be played at the Blacktown Workers Club on Sunday, December 9 while the Pink Heart Ladies Champs will be played on the day prior (Saturday, December 8).
