A long, long day of poker finally wrapped up just before sunrise this morning with nine players remaining in the hunt for the first prize of $172,500 in the PokerStars tour event at Crown Melbourne.
It took more than 16 hours on day two to whittle the 141 starters down to the line-up for the ANZPT Melbourne Main Event final table, with Ashley Warner emerging at the head of the chip count holding a handy lead over his closest challengers Michael Lo Giudice and Peter Matusik.
Day 1B chip leader Paul Hockin survived the session to lie fourth in chips while 2012 ANZPT Player of the Year* runner-up Anthony Aston and Michael Guzzardi also remain in contention for the title.
Play on the final table bubble continued for more than an hour until Tam Truong’s short stack was ground into the felt. Others who cashed included Bryan Huang (12th), Hugh Cohen (13th), Minh Hau Nguyen (20th), Bill Jordanou (22nd), Kyle Cheong (29th), Matthew Wakeman (33rd), Kristian Lunardi (35th), Amanda De Cesare (37th), Patrick Dillon (38th) and James Bills (39th).
