After opening with a week and a half of affordable preliminary events, the big money has arrived in town for the ANZPT Melbourne Main Event, which starts at Crown Melbourne tomorrow.
Already several events have been run, starting with Luigi Spinazzola’s cash for $20,050 – not bad for an event with a buy-in of just $250, which drew a huge field of 433 players!
But that return on investment was dwarfed by the $20,000 first prize pocketed by Dean Francis in event three, which carried a buy-in of just $50 with eight day one flights and a $100,000 guarantee again luring huge numbers.
Other winners over the past fortnight have included Julie Sweet ($5046 for winning the $150 No Limit Hold’em Deep Stack event) Andy Zarro ($10,950 as the Monthly Mega Stack winner) and Kim Vaksman, who took the $350 Seven-Game Mixed Event for $5420.
Last night, NSW won the ‘State of Origin’ event with New Zealand finishing runner-up. Congratulations to the NSW team of Grant Levy (captain), Aaron Benton, Daniel Neilson, Andy Lee, Antonis Kambouroglou, Dave Allan, Matthew Wakeman and Jai Kemp.
Kicking off shortly (2.10pm Thursday) is the $1100 No Limit Hold’em Six-handed before the first of two day one flights in the $2200 ANZPT Melbourne Main Event which starts at 12.10pm tomorrow (Friday).
Other events in coming days include a $300 No Limit Hold’em Teams Event, $350 No Limit Hold’em Deep Stack and $350 No Limit Hold’em/Pot Limit Hold’em Deep Stack.
