Highlights from day 13 of the 2012 WSOP Europe (October 3)
Phil Hellmuth (pictured left, with thanks to wsop.com) enters the final day of the 2012 WSOP Europe Main Event ideally positioned to claim an unprecedented 13th WSOP gold bracelet. Hellmuth holds a narrow chip lead over Ukraine’s Sergii Baranov with day three chip leader Joseph Cheong holding third.
Three players representing the host nation – Stephane Albertini, Stephane Girault and Paul Tedeschi – have also reached the final table along with Chris Brammer from the UK and the vastly experienced Jason Mercier.
A number of past gold bracelet winners hit the rail on day four, including Scott Seiver (10th), David Benyamine (15th) and Andy Frankenberger (22nd).
Steve Dannenman, who was runner-up to Joe Hachem in the 2005 WSOP Main Event, finished 12th; Max Silver was eighth in this event last year and managed 16th while Liv Boeree was the highest placed female finisher in 18th.
The 2012 WSOP Player of the Year race is closer to being decided after this week’s events (and pending the outcome of the world championship final table, coming at the end of October). Amazingly, two of the five contenders for this prize are still alive in the WSOP Europe finale – Phil Hellmuth and Joseph Cheong. The other contenders are Antonio Esfandiari and Greg Merson.
