Highlights from day 10 of the 2012 WSOP Europe (September 30)
The 2012 WSOP Europe Main Event Championship continued today with day 1B at the Majestic Barriere, in Cannes, France with 205 players joining the 215 who took to the felt for day 1A.
The top 48 finishers will collect prize money, with the winner assured €1,002,366. A total of 230 survivors will take to the felt for day two.
The big story from day 1B was the run of Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier, who topped the count for this flight on 190,400 to trail only Michael Mizrachi (234,850) heading into day two.
Grospellier, winner of a WSOP title two years ago, hopes to win what would most certainly be an honour with great personal significance.
For all of Grospellier’s accomplishments – both as a poker pro and master gamesman – winning poker’s most respected prize in his home country and adding his name to the list of those with WSOP Europe gold bracelets would mark one of the highlights of what’s been an amazing seven-year career in poker.
Other highlights from day 1B included strong runs for Daniel Negreanu and Phil Hellmuth while the four Aussies in action – Aaron Lim (62,675), Tino Lechich (58,175), Jeff Rossiter (19,275) and Joe Hachem (11,750, pictured, with thanks to wsop.com) – all progressed, and will join reigning Aussie Millions champion Oliver Speidel (71,950) and Kyle Cheong (26,420) in pursuit of Australia’s second WSOPE bracelet.
