Simon Dwyer has started the 2012 Sydney Champs in impressive fashion with victory in the $330 No Limit Hold’em Opening Event. He earned an impressive payout of $57,915 after outpointing Suzy Khoueis heads-up. Chip leader at the start of the final table, Stefan Post, placed sixth.
Dwyer’s win was remarkable in that he was rarely far from the chip lead. He held the lead after day 1A, and was in third chip position heading into the final table behind Post and Shivan Abdine, who placed fourth.
One of two female players at the final table, Khoueis added another deep finish to a CV that includes second in the 2012 ANZAC Day tournament at The Star, and 23rd in the first APPT Grand Final back in 2007.
Underlining its status as one of the most popular regularly scheduled events as part of a major tournament schedule, the Opening Event was a complete sellout, with 825 players spread across three flights.
