PUB POKER: Exciting new chapter for APL’s NSW Pro Open

The APL Pro Open has established a reputation as the nation’s premier monthly pub poker event, with more than $2 million in cash and prizes paid out since the event was established over four years ago.

Next weekend (May 19-20) at Penrith Panthers, more than $50,000 will be up for grabs when the Pro Open shares the spotlight with the fourth running of the APL Sydney Champs.

Action kicks-off at 11am on Saturday, May 19 (registration from 9am) with the APL Sydney Champs. The field is capped at 400 players, which will ensure a prizepool of $28,000, while the first prize is a guaranteed $10,000 and the top 32 players will receive a minimum payout of $150.

With a start back of 20,000, and a super relaxed and extended blind structure, the APL Sydney Champs is a true deep stack tournament and is fast becoming one of the most requested events on the NSW pub circuit.

Then on Sunday, May 20, Sydney’s best will be again out in force for the APL Pro Open. The guaranteed $25,000 prize package includes a $17,000 TeamWSOP package and seats to the next MAIN EVENT.

Qualification into these monthly special events is quite simple. For those who haven’t qualified through a nightly Pro Series event, simply turn up on the day and register for $110 for your shot at glory.

The Pro Open is a two-flight event with a final. All players must be registered before noon (registration opens at 10am). Players start with a stack of 10,000 tournament chips.

• Excitement is also building for the June 2012 Pro Open as the APL team prepare to hit the road for a long weekend on the banks of the Murray.

The June NSW Pro Open Road Trip invites all players, especially those from Victoria, to a trip to Howlong Golf Club for a four-day festival of poker with a total prizepool of $40,000.

The schedule kicks-off on Thursday, June 14, with a $120 NLHE High Roller event and a NLHE Deep Stack Freezeout. Next up on Friday are Tag Team and Turbo Deep Stack tournaments.

Saturday features four events – first-up the No-Limit HOP Event, followed by a $700 Freeroll. At 5.30pm there will be a NLHE Cubed Event, and at 9pm a NLHE Freezeout.

The festival culminates with the June NSW Pro Open offering a prize pool of $25,000 including a WSOP package, three MAIN EVENT seats, 32 Pro Open tickets and $4400 cash. Then at 5.30pm, a $5 Frenzy will cap off four incredible days of action on the felt.

Accommodation for the weekend is available at the venue from as little as $110. To book your accommodation call Howlong Golf Club on (02) 6026 5588 or email at enquiries@howlonggolf.com.au.
