A decade has passed since the Melbourne Poker Championships kicked-off, and the celebrations kicked-off in emphatic fashion with the ninth running of the $550 buy-in Joe Hachem Deep Stack event.
A massive field of 475 players built a prizepool of almost $240,000 ensuing the winner almost $50,000 – not bad for a preliminary event! A marathon day in the Crown poker room, which started with 169 players still in contention for the title, ended when Ron Parsons hoisted the championship trophy.
Jackie Glazier underlined her status as Australia’s premier female player in finishing runner-up while former JHDS winner Andrew Mellado, who started the day as chip leader, was still there at the business end to place third.
Other familiar names to finish in the money included Jim Sachinidis (eighth), Michael Egan (10th), 2011 Aussie Millions champion David Gorr (15th), day 1B chip leader Dave Lee (20th), day 1A chip leader Chris Bonato (21st) and Billy Jordanou (23rd).
