ANZPT: Perth Poker Champs kick-off tonight

It’s been a big 12 months for the staff and management of Burswood Casino. Late last year, Burswood welcomed Nobu, the world’s most recognised Japanese restaurant brand, to its line-up of world class dining options.

ISIKA, a brand-new day spa concept to Western Australia incorporating ISIKA Spa, ISIKA Fitness, ISIKA Hair & Body Bar, was also added to Burswood’s list of attractions over the summer. The biggest change will come later this year when the property’s name will officially change to Crown Perth after being announced late in 2011.

With all this change, it’s only appropriate that a new poker tournament series has also been added to the line-up of events at Burswood with the first edition of the Perth Poker Championships scheduled to kick-off next Thursday (April 26).

Deservedly, this event also recently returned to full ANZPT status. Tour management had initially made the bizarre decision to dump this highly popular event from the ANZPT but it returned to the schedule when it became apparent that the Gold Coast event could not be held in 2012 due to renovations at Jupiters Hotel and Casino.

The highlight of the Perth Poker Champs is the $1100 Main Event which kicks-off with the first of two day one flights on May 2. After victories for Tony Hachem (2010) and Grant Levy (2011) in the past two ANZPT Perth Main Events, the hometown contingent will be desperate to keep the title in WA.

Other features of the schedule include a $550 NLHE Repechage event (player can enter both day one flights to accumulate chips), a $120 NLHE rebuy tournament, $550 NLHE six-handed event, an innovative $440 NLHE/PLO Teams event and $4000 High Stakes NLHE tournament. PMA will be providing daily updates from Burswood during the Perth Poker Champs so check back to follow all the action from WA’s first major tournament series for 2012.
