After more than two years in the shadows, poker is back in the spotlight at The Star as, for the first time since 2009, poker tables are back on the main casino floor at The Star.
Players in this week’s Easter Monday $550 No Limit Hold’em Tournament will be among the first to taste the new Star Poker experience.
For the past two and a half years, Star Poker has been tucked away on the second level away from the daily hustle and bustle of the casino as the property underwent a massive refurbishment. But after months of campaigning and planning, the first hands of poker will be dealt in the new Star Poker hub over the Easter weekend.
Star Poker manager Stephen Ibrahim said a total of 20 tables would be regularly in use with an option to add an extra 10 tables in the Sports Theatre precinct during major tournament series like the Sydney Champs and Summer Series.
“It’s great to be back on the main gaming floor amid the day-to-day action of the casino. We’re confident that the visibility of having poker centre stage at The Star will help generate bigger numbers for both cash games and tournaments,” Stephen said.
To coincide with the move, two new variations are to be offered at Star Poker – a 3/3 No Limit Hold’em (buy-in $200-$300) and a high stakes 5/10/20 No Limit Hold’em (buy-in $1000-$3000). The ever-popular 1/2 and 5/5 games remain while regular Omaha games will also be offered.
The monthly tournament schedule remains unchanged, with ever-popular favourites like the $220 Monday Night Turbo, $330 Weekly Wednesdays and $1k Super Sunday Satellite part of the regular fare.
Stephen also revealed that the schedule for the 2012 Sydney Poker Championships, which will be held from August 1-12, should be available soon – watch PMA for more details.
