ANZPT SYDNEY: Maatouk outguns rivals to win Semi-Shootout title

Solid numbers and quality line-ups continue to be the story of the 2012 ANZPT Sydney preliminary schedule as evidenced by the field for the $440 No Limit Hold’em Semi-Shootout event.

A total of 78 players generated a prizepool of more than $30,000 with Rabii Maatouk improving his remarkable record at Star Poker to three wins in four major tournament cashes.

He won a Mega Satellite to last year’s ANZPT Sydney Main Event and claimed the Two-Card Manila title at APPT Sydney in 2009.

Last night at The Star, Maatouk defeated Chris Bridle heads-up to pocket $11,544 while Bridle, who narrowly missed the money in the PMA NLHE Special Event, earned $7800 for second.

Australian Poker Hall of Fame member Mel Judah was third while Alan Bustany, who was runner-up in the Shootout event at last year’s ANZPT Sydney, placed fourth.

Andrew Scarf collected his ninth major tournament cash in his home casino with fifth while Lawford Edwards added an ANZPT Sydney cash to his 18th in last year’s Star Poker Summer Series Main Event.
