ANZPT SYDNEY: Benton the man to catch at Opening Event final table

On the day of the Australian Grand Prix, it’s Star Poker ambassador Aaron Benton (pictured left) who is on pole position to take out the Opening Event of the 2012 ANZPT Sydney series at The Star.

The 2009 APPT Sydney champion was the dominant player on day two and takes the chip lead into today’s final table, which starts at 4pm – just about the same time Lewis Hamilton will lead the field off the grid in the Aussie GP.

Benton holds a massive 2.2 million in chips and will have the second biggest stack – that of Luke Kelly (1.624 million) to his immediate right. Kelly started day two well below the chip average but carefully picked his way through the field to be well positioned for a shot at the $51,836 first prize.

In contrast, Tristan Earl was second in chips heading into day two and managed to survive a torrid day at the felt to be among the short stacks with nine players remaining.

Another player to watch will be one of Australia’s premier female tournament poker players, Suzy Khoueis, who is sixth in chips but an early double-up will quickly have her back in the title race.
