PUB POKER: Ladies take centre stage prior to Pro Open

2010 Pink Heart Ladies Championship winner Sue Davis

The Canterbury-Hurlstone Park RSL Club hosts a massive two days of poker this weekend (March 10-11) with the Pink Heart Ladies Championship and latest edition of the APL Pro Open.

The Pink Heart Ladies Championship was introduced last year to reward the loyal female players that have been a crucial component in contributing to the success of poker. Sue Davis of Queensland conquered the field of 162 players to win the inaugural title along with $2000 and a major tournament seat.

This year’s champion will also walk away with a guaranteed $2000 in prizes including a seat to the next MAIN EVENT and the prestigious Pink Heart Trophy. Buy-in for the event is $60 including GST and tickets will be available on the day. Registration is from 10am for a noon start. Recognising that some of the ladies will be travelling with companions, organisers will be running a $5 unlimited rebuy side event to keep the gents.

• On the next day, Sydney’s best will be again out in force for the latest instalment of the monthly APL Pro Open. The guaranteed $25,000 prize package includes a highly sought $17,000 TeamWSOP package comprising entry into the 2012 WSOP Main Event, flights, accommodation and TeamWSOP apparel.

Seats to the MAIN EVENT will be awarded to the players who finish second, third and fourth places (valued at $1200 each) while the remainder of the guaranteed $25,000 prizepool will be distributed as cash.

Qualification into these monthly special events is quite simple. Win any nightly Pro Series event and you will have a seat to the following Pro Open. If you don’t qualify then simply turn up on the day and register for $110 to get amongst the action.

In response to feedback from players, additional qualification opportunities are now available. For Pro Series events with more than 80 players, the APL is now also rewarding second place with entry into the following month’s Pro Open.

If you players secure more than one Pro Series win during a calendar month, they may now transfer additional qualifications for the Pro Open to friends. The Pro Open is a two-flight event with a final. All players must be registered before noon (registration opens at 10am). Players start with a stack of 10,000 tournament chips.

• The Canterbury-Hurlstone Park RSL Club is at 20-26 Canterbury Road, Hurlstone Park, NSW.
