From February 23-26, The MAIN EVENT will take centre stage at Crown with more than 500 players from around the country vying for a share of a prize pool expected to surpass AUD $500,000.

This is more than just a poker tournament. The MAIN EVENT marks the first time players representing three of Australia’s premier pub poker brands – the 888Poker League, the Australian Poker League and Pub Poker – will sit side-by-side in pursuit of a prestigious national title under the Full Housr Group banner.
Although this is a new tournament, The MAIN EVENT is carrying on a tradition of qualification-only tournaments, which offer hundreds of thousands of dollars in prizemoney. These types of events, which date back to 2007, allow non-professional players to participate in high-stakes tournaments.
The APL set the bar with the first Tournament of Champions played at Luna Park in Sydney in 2007, with an AUD $1 million prizepool up for grabs. Similarly, events like the APL Grand Slam and Poker Classic, the APL Poker Tour and 888PL Grand Finals have offered their players life-changing amounts of money.
Registration for The MAIN EVENT opens at 3pm on Thursday, February 23 and, befitting an event of this stature, our lovely promo girls will be on hand to greet players. Be sure to stop for a photo opportunity and, while you’re there, collect your Player’s Party drink card.
Your registration pack will contain a number of gifts, including wrist band entry to the Player’s Party, MAIN EVENT seat cushion, MAIN EVENT tattoos, patches, cap and commemorative poker chips. These APL and 888PL MAIN EVENT poker chips are unique to this inaugural tournament, making them a must for any collector of poker memorabilia.
Depending on whether you play APL or 888PL, you will receive two identical poker chips and the idea is to find a player with the opposite chip and swap one to create a complete set, featuring both brands. This is to celebrate the unification of our APL and 888PL brands at The MAIN EVENT and to encourage players to get to know each other throughout the course of the tournament.
At 4pm on Thursday be sure to catch the action as eight contenders play it out for the title of APL Player of the Year, then at 6pm the Last Chance Qualifier is expected to draw a field of about 150 runners. This $150 buy-in event with 25-minute levels represents the last chance to qualify for The MAIN EVENT.
On Friday the main action starts at 12.10pm and will continue over 12 levels of 30 minutes. As the sun sets, be sure to make your way upstairs to Fusion on Level 3 of the Crown Entertainment Complex where the Player Party starts at 8.30pm.
On Saturday the action continues with day two of The MAIN EVENT, a TeamAUSSIEMILLIONS Satellite and Teams Event. Action wraps up on Sunday with The MAIN EVENT winner to be decided.
